The good thing about moving, is that that you come across things you had forgotten about.

I found these little name placement's that I made when we did a 'come dine with me' night in London...

I also did a little witch and a little mermaid, which our other guests took away with them.

Needless to say I won,  although I suspect the high points were for my creative table and not so much my creative cooking!

Thinking about Christmas! Why??

I'm not quite sure why, but lately I have been inspired to design some Christmas cards! (I know, I am as surprised as you are...it's only April for goodness sakes!) Even though it is slightly bizarre, I have decided to just go with the urge to draw  fluffy snowmen and Santa's and the like as last year when I should have been designing Christmas cards, I just couldn't. I had no desire to do so what-so-ever.

So, above is the beginnings of one of my designs for next Christmas which I started to paint this morning, whilst humming  'Jingle bells' (maybe I have lost the plot?)  I know it isn't looking very christmassy yet, but it will do once I have finished.

I have also been having lots of fun with my sewing machine lately. I have made the cutest little gifts for some very special twins who will be turning 2 soon.  I can't show you what I have made yet but will do once they have received them, so I've left you with a little glimpse for now....

PS, 'Pet of the week' will be back next Friday..I have a long list of beautiful pets waiting to be featured and I am sorry I have not posted a 'pet of the week' recently. I have no excuse other than I lost my blogging mojo for a while, but it seems to be back now... lets hope it stays for a bit.

He's Arrived!

Charlie's cowboy arrived safe and sound in Blighty (apart from a little jet-lag and consuming far too many free peanuts on the flight!!)

I really enjoyed working on this commission and was a little sad to see it go. I have done a couple of 'Wild West' themed pictures now but I never get fed up with them.

I really hope Charlie likes his picture and enjoys it for many years to come.

PS: Isn't it funny how sometimes you just get a sixth sense about something.  I just went a bought a picture frame for my latest commission and for some reason just as I was about to open the back I thought, 'there is going to be something wrong with this frame'. I'm not sure why that thought crossed my mind as the frame looks no different to any other frame I buy, but I was right. The back would not come off ... it was totally jammed. Took me a good half an hour of cursing and fiddling before it finally budged and then another 20 minutes after that trying to get in back on. I really should of just gone and bought a new one eh...

Rainy Days

I haven't drawn any animals in a long while...After all the rain we are having in Auckland, it felt right that the little pig I drew should be happy in a muddy puddle...

Robots Looking For A Good Home!

First up is 'Bodger'

a cute little Robot looking for a friend to love him. Bodger is house-trained but has a thing for televisions (he likes to take them apart ) so please take this into consideration when finding a suitable spot for him. He also likes to dance and is very good at ....robotics!

Next is 'Rusty'.

Rusty is slightly older than Bodger but also a friendly Robot (although he does tend to get grumpy when hungry) Due to neglect from previous owner  he is a little on the larger scale and will need regular exercise (he may protest at first but will enjoy exercising once out and  he especially enjoys a good game of football)

First Painting of 2012!

Here is the start of my first painting of 2012...

Just a little farm girl posing for a picture. I'm hoping to have her finished by the weekend.

I went to Auckland Botanic Gardens this afternoon. It's a lovely place to visit.

I managed to take some photos in between the heavy downpours. I love taking photos of flowers, especially Roses...

and here are a couple of my favourite sculptures that we found along the way...

Next time I visit, I'll take a picnic, a nice soft blanket and a good book. It's so relaxing, I could have stayed for hours.

Just a Little Sketch or 2!

Been doing lots of sketching lately for my greeting card range that I will be bringing out next year... 

Here are just a couple of my ideas...

I'm hoping to start painting these during the Christmas holiday. I've been so busy with lots of other things lately that I haven't been able to do much painting...I miss my little paint brushes and the sanctuary of my little art room.... sigh!

On a completely different note, Tom has been lucky enough to get Shingles, just before Christmas!!  It's pretty bad, he is completely covered around his middle and is being the worst  patient ever not because he is moaning about his illness but because he cannot stand being stuck inside!
Not being able to leave the house for a week sounds like bliss to me at the moment :0)

Ready For The Beach?

I finished this picture today, 'Ready for the Beach'. I wanted this picture to be a little more subtle than my usual paintings which are very bright & bold and heavily outlined. 

You can't really see it from these photos but there is a faint blue sky in the background.

Today I've been...

working on my latest commission.  It's for the clients granddaughter.  Apparently Isla loves the outdoors and especially loves animals. I wanted the picture to be full and interesting to look at. Here is the early stages of the sketch that I will be working from...

Since this photo was taken, I've added a cat asleep on a rock at the bottom right of the picture and some more strands of grass behind the toadstool's.

I'm going to start painting it tomorrow. I'll post photos of the finished piece soon!

On another note, I thought I'd share this photo taken yesterday of my niece Rose staring at our neighbours cat Hunter (who has practically moved in with us!!)  Hunter is a gorgeous cat but can be a bit temperamental, so he wasn't allowed in. Rose was completely fascinated by him and they both stayed staring at each other for a good hour!
